Waitsburg Resource Center Meets Community Needs

October 2, 2014

WAITSBURG - The Waitsburg Resource Center (WRC) has come a long way from the dark and crowded food bank that once operated in the basement of the Presbyterian Church. The center, a cooperative ministry of the Waitsburg Christian, Presbyterian and Catholic churches moved to its current home, a well-lit, easily accessible space in the AmericanWest Bank building, in early 2011. The center began receiving commodities under the Federal Food Assistance Program, channeled through the Blue Mountain Action Council, in March of that year and has continued to expand its services to meet community needs.

This summer, the center served local families by offering a four-week Knock Out Boredom! summer program featuring fun, educational activities for children. Seventy-two children participated in the program run by local volunteers. This year, the center provided free bicycle helmets to children, sponsored a mobile dental van visit and provided students with backpacks, while continuing to supply needy families with food and resource referrals.

Financial and food donations are always welcome and may be delivered during regular center hours. The WRC is currently in need of: macaroni and cheese, creamed corn, canned fruit, hamburger, deodorant, hand soap, and toothpaste

The Waitsburg Resource Center is located at 106 Preston Avenue (in the AmericanWest Bank building) and is open Saturdays from 9-11a.m. and Thursdays from 2-4 p.m. The center serves families in the Waitsburg and Prescott school districts.
