Tracksters Shine at Walla Walla Meet

WALLA WALLA - The WP boys' track and field team dominated the District 9 meet in Walla Walla on April 2. The Cardinals finished with 146.5 points, more than doubling second place DeSales.

WP winners included Kevin Aquino in the 400 meters (WP took the top eight places), Owen Lanning in both the 110m and 300m hurdles (Kobie Brown was a strong second in the 110), Nate Bartlow in the shot put, Brandon Penner in the discus, Kobie Brown in the high jump and Owen Lanning in the triple jump.

"Brandon Penner was a huge highlight on Wednesday," said WP coach Jeff Bartlow. "He won the Discus, second in the javelin with a PR of 121 feet and then in his second attempt in the TJ went 33 feet. He can put on 2 or 3 feet over the next month and be competitive. He had a great day."

WP boys also won both the 4X100 and 4X400 relay races.

The Dayton girls also had a big day, as Kaitlyn Andrews won all four events she entered: 100m dash, shot put, her specialty the javelin and the long jump.

Dayton swept the top three places in the 100 meter dash, with Carissa Price finishing second and Alexis Walker third. Price also finished fourth in the long jump.

The Dayton Girls finished second in the team competition, barely losing out to DeSales, 65-63.

For teh Dayton boys, Matthew Warren was second in the 800 meters and Zach Bryan was third in the 1600 meters.

Oscar Teixeira was a strong fourth in the 110 meter hurdles. Dayton's Cal Martin got off a great throw in the javelin, finishing fourth at 108 feet, eight inches.

For WP's girls, Emily Adams won both the 1600 and 3200 meter races and was second in the Triple Jump, with a mark of 29 feet, nine inches.

Kassidy Kuykendall was fourth in the 200 meters.
