BLUEGRASS KIDS CLUB

WAITSBURG - The Bluegrass Kids Club will meet this Thursday, Sept. 8 at 3:15 p.m. in the High School band room. The club is free, open to kids fifth grade through high school. Students need to provide their own instruments. For more information, call Kate Hockersmith 337-8789.

NEW CHURCH CLASSES BEGIN

WAITSBURG - On Sept. 11, youth classes and adult spiritual growth groups begin for the First Christian Church. The church is invited to a potluck barbecue at the Presbyterian Church following worship. Please bring a salad to share.

PIONEER FALL FESTIVAL

WAITSBURG - Waitsburg's Pioneer Fall Festival begins at 11 a.m. with community worship on Sept. 18 at the Bruce House Museum on Main Street. The historical society will present its award for Pioneer of the Year to Jane Butler and a buffalo barbecue will be served. The museum will open at noon that day.

COUNTY FAIR BEGINS FRIDAY

DAYTON - The Columbia County Fair will run Sept. 9, 10 and 11at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in Dayton. On Friday, there is a Demolition Derby, Saturday a Bull Bash and Sunday is Family Fun Day. Fabulous Midway Entertainment, and more. Tickets and other information call 509-629-1354.

DHS ORIENTATION

DAYTON -- The Dayton School District and GEAR UP are holding a freshman and sophomore orientation at 6 p.m. on Sept. 22 for students and parents. Dinner will be served. Elizabeth Stephens, the evening's keynote speaker, will speak about her work in the science and math fields. Dayton's Principal Andy Maheras will review the requirements for graduation from Dayton High School. Also, a college panel will be set up for those in attendance to ask questions. Students and families will be able to take photos in a cap and gown with the principal and superintendent for a "Picture Yourself Graduating" display at the high school.

NEW FARM WORKER STUDY

WALLA WALLA - Leaders in the Walla Walla area and the Washington Farmworker Housing Trust have released a new report on the housing needs for farmworkers in the Walla Walla area and Washington State. The report details the housing needed to improve quality of life for local farmworkers and stabilize the local economy. The report can be viewed at www.farmworkerhousingtrust.org.

HERITAGE QUILT SHOW

WALLA WALLA -- Through Oct. 31, the Fort Walla Walla Museum is holding an annual heritage quilt show. The show features a sampling of the Museum's 90 heritage quilts and helps draw attention to Washington State's 101st anniversary of women's suffrage and the nation's 91st anniversary of the 19th Amendment's ratification guaranteeing American women's right to vote. SHOOTING ASSOCIATION

DAYTON - Columbia County Shooting Association meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the American Legion Post 42 Building, 211 E Clay St., Dayton.
