On Friday the Cardinals traveled to Tri- Cities Prep and took a close game from the Jaguars, 44-41.     MILTON-FREEWATER - The Waitsburg-Prescott girls traveled to Mac Hi's Gym January 14, but lost to the Pioneers 40-31. The Lady Cards kept the game close in the first half, trailing by three at intermission. But the Mac-Hi girls outscored them 13-7 in the third quarter before coasting to the win. Heidi Miller led WP with nine points and also pulled down six rebounds. Kas­sidy Kuykendall and Hannah Grant each had seven points.     DAYTON - The Dayton School Board recently ap­proved a resolution allowing Dayton's football team to play 8-man football in the fall of 2014. The team will play members of the South­east Washington 1B 8-man league. According to Superin­tendent Doug Johnson, the move was made because of low turnout in recent years.     MEAD - The Bluewood Alpine Race Team (BART) faced harsh conditions at the Youth Team's first com­petition at Mt. Spokane last weekend, but two skiers claimed one top-five and two top-ten finishes in the Giant Slalom event. Heavy, wet snow and fog made even finding the race site difficult and led to rough course conditions.
