At the Liberty:"Angel and the Badman"

DAYTON –In the Western "Angel and the Badman", a feared outlaw, Quirt Evans, staggers onto a ranch with a bullet in his back. He expects a quick death, not mercy; however, the rancher's daughter offers him a chance at something he's never had: a life beyond violence. Unfortunately, the past doesn't forgive. A marshal is closing in, and an outlaw gang wants to burn the ranch to the ground. Quirt must decide what kind of man he'll be when the world demands blood. Notable performances from Zachary Levi, Neal McDonough, and Tommy Lee Jones. It is rated PG-13 for violence and bloody images, suggestive material, and language. It runs 105 minutes.

This remake of the 1947 John Wayne classic blends romance, moral struggle, and western action. "Early impressions emphasize a blend of classic Western grit with modern action and emotional depth, suggesting a more character-driven remake rather than a simple retread of the 1947 original." Some write-ups describe the film as a potential standout in a renewed wave of Westerns, noting its "bigger, flashier" approach while still focusing on themes of redemption.

Up Next: "Heart of the Beast" on Oct. 16-20. After a harrowing plane crash, Special Forces officer James Belmont (Brad Pitt) and his combat dog, Odin, find themselves stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Together, they are forced into a brutal fight for survival against the elements. From acclaimed filmmaker David Ayer, "Heart of the Beast" is an intense adventure thriller that explores the unbreakable bond between a man and his best friend as they face their greatest battle yet.

The 2026 Fall Production of "The Wizard of Oz" runs from November 13 to December 5. Brenda Henderson and Assistant Director Stephanie Snyder are directing the show. Rehearsals are underway, and the team is designing and fitting costumes. Over 60 local cast and crew are participating in this production. Tickets go on sale October 19 and will be available on libertytheater.org or at the theater's box office on Tuesdays and Fridays, 2-5 p.m.
