At The Liberty: "The Magic Faraway Tree"

DAYTON—When a modern family is forced to relocate to the remote English countryside, the children discover a magical tree inhabited by extraordinary and eccentric residents. At the top of the tree, they are transported to spectacular, fantastical lands, where the wonders and trials of their adventures help the family reconnect and rediscover one another for the first time in years. The cast includes Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Michael Palin, Jennifer Saunders, Mark Heap, Rebecca Ferguson, Jessica Gunning, and Nicola Coughlan. Rated PG for some rude humor, and mild action, the film has a runtime of 110 minutes.

Tickets are on sale now for “The Last Picture Shows,” which screens on Thursday, September 10 at 7:00. This film has 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes where one critic says it is “a disarming and heartfelt ode to small-town, Main Street movie theaters…personal filmmaking at its best.”

Filmmaker Rustin Thompson journeys into the American West on a search for traces of what was once a center of small-town life: the movie theater. “The Last Picture Shows” is not only a timely portrait of an industry in crisis, one facing the headwinds of consolidation, streaming, and the diminishing theatrical experience, but it also reminds viewers that even in vast cinema deserts, there are oases of community and gathering that remain, where the movie house continues to be a place of wonder, contemplation, and connection. “Manhattan Short Film Festival” is bringing 10 films from 10 different countries. On September 25-29, the Liberty will be one of four theaters in Washinton State to show the film festival, when over 100,000 film lovers across the world will unite in over 500 cities on six continents, will view and vote on the finalists’ films. All 10 finalists’ films will be shown each night during regular movie times and at regular movie prices. More details to come.
