Waitsburg-Prescott graduate Kris Cady got the opportunity of a lifetime when he played in the Washington State Football Coaches Association East-West all star game in Yakima this weekend. The West won the game 23-14. The Earl Barden Classic was played at Zaepfel Stadium and consisted of some of the best football players in the 1A, 1B and 2A divisions in the State of Washington. The players were selected by the coaches association.

Farmers in the Touchet Valley are predicting their harvest this year will be at least a week later than usual with fields in the Prescott and Waitsburg areas ready by the third week of July and in Dayton by early August. "Almost every farmer coming in says they'll be seven to ten days late," said Matt Weber, an agronomist with the McGregor Co.'s Waitsburg branch, which supplies them with farm chemicals.

Fifty Years Ago

June 24, 1976

Waitsburg Council held a short meeting on Wednesday evening, June 16. Present was Bill Burwell, Department of Ecology, who met with the group to help set up a tentative schedule for the work to be done at the sewage plant over the next two years. Phil Monfort submitted a letter of resignation to Council as dog catcher. The resignation was regretfully accepted, with the members present extending thanks and appreciation for a thankless job well done for the past several years.

Seventy-Five Years Ago

June 29, 1951

Rev. Burton Stewart who has been pastor of the Nazarene Church here for the past few years, moved last week to Tucson, Ariz. where he has been transferred to do work at the Indian reservation.

Five 4-H members from Waitsburg attended the annual outing at Camp Wooten on the Tucannon River. Marilyn Archer, Eden Brown, Lynette Kruchek, Bill Stonechipher, and Charles Danielson, accompanied by Mrs. Charlotte Danielson, enjoyed the many activities.

A group of women met at the home of Mrs. Lester Carson in Huntsville Friday afternoon to organize a women's club which will be known as the Touchet Valley Homemakers.

One Hundred Years Ago

July 2, 1926

Mrs. Doc Sanders experienced a painful gash on the bridge of her nose Sunday at the local baseball field when a ball was batted through the windshield of the car in which she was sitting.

Ross Falnders and John White made up a company and were off for a trip to the woods in north Idaho for a fishing and camping vacation.

Marvin Hales who graduated from WSC from the veterinary department has been named Deputy State Veterinarian and Dairy Inspector and will leave the first part of the week for Wenatchee where he will make his headquarters.

One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago

July 5, 1901

Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Philips entertained a number of friends at their country home at Coppei one day last week.

Edgar Smith and Oscar Abbey are in Heppner, Ore. this week having accepted an engagement to play in the Heppner band on July 4th.

Officers of the Evans Harvester Co. were elected by the stockholders Monday afternoon. Frank McCown, president; J. L. Harper, vice president; J. G. Evans, secretary; J. W. Morgan, treasurer; W. E. Singer, manager; Frank McCown, J. L. Harper, J. G. Evans, Arthur Roberts and J. A. Ingrave, trustees.
