Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

TOUCHET VALLEY - Waitsburg, Dayton, Prescott, and Dixie softball players and coaches were grateful for the opportunity to be able to host softball games in Waitsburg and Dayton this season. In the past, all games were played in Walla Walla.

With the leadership of Dave Meliah at Walla Walla Parks & Rec and Waitsburg coach Chelsie Abel, family and friends were able to enjoy watching our girls play on their local fields.

The number of Touchet Valley teams in the Blue Mountain Girls Softball League continues to grow. Forty-three girls combined to form four teams this season – two 1st/2nd grade teams and two 3rd/4th grade teams.

On Tuesday, May 26, the Waitsburg 3rd/4th grade team, sponsored by LC Applicators, won 7-6 against a Walla Walla team, sponsored by Falkenberg's Jewelers, a team that previously beat LC Applicators.

"I'm so proud of this group of girls. They came into the season with different levels of experience, but each one worked hard to learn the game and grow together as a team. It's been fun to see their progression," said Coach Stephanie Cole.

LC Applicators roster consists of Amie Young, Kaidence Wilcox, Violet Watkins, Alyssa Cole, Elizabeth Hays, Avery Spring, Foster Richardson, Dakota Creeley, and Lynlee Henry.

The Touchet Valley 1st/2nd grade team, with Charlotte Rabenold, Ember Adams, Lillian Cole, Lainey Davis, Brilla Trevino, Harper Hutchens, Ryleigh Fletcher, Olivia Thurston, Nyla Hays, Brinley Clarys, Gryelynn Bickelhaupt, and Chloe Abel, was coached by Chelsie Abel.

The success of these teams was made possible by local volunteers who gave their time, patience, encouragement, and commitment to strengthen youth sports in the Touchet Valley. The coaches, who helped build a foundation for future middle school and high school teams were: Chelsie Abel, Sean Thurston, Stephanie Cole, Tyson Cole, Whitney Dunn, Allie Johnson, and Emily Papineau.
