Dayton School Board approves donations, resignations

DAYTON – The Dayton School Board met in the High School Library at 6:30 p.m. on May 20, 2026. Superintendent Jeremy Wheatley, Board Chair Jeffrey McCowen, and Board members Pat Davidson and Grant Griffin participated in person in the school library. Aneesha Dieu and Ryan Paulson joined remotely.

After routine administrative items, the Board accepted the personnel report, included in the consent agenda, which this month listed only three resignations: Tyler (Tiger) Dieu from the position of Grounds Custodian, Sarah Reser from the position of Middle School ASB Advisor, and Suzi Tasker from the position of Administrative Assistant.

The approved three donations: $250 to the FFA to support the Butterfly Station, $500 for musical instruments repair, and $1,844.28 from the Community Network/Senior Parents Banner Fund toward the senior trip.

In the ASB Report, the ASB election results were announced:

President: Lucy Trump

Vice President: Alexa Jones

Secretary: Cindi Howard

Treasurer: Jordan McCowen

Public Relations Manager: McKenna McCowen

Public Relations Manager Assistant: Claire Garrett

Sam Korslund said he was planning summer camps and activities with his coaches, with the first day of practice scheduled for June 1, 2026.

Wheatley’s Superintendent’s Report discussed health and safety, including drills and health-related inspections. Columbia County Public Health has instituted a much more extensive environmental safety inspection.

Wheatley also opined that it was a tough year in the “grant world,” as the district found it tougher to win grants than last year.

Finally, the board approved the annual membership in the WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association).

There was no executive session following the meeting.
