WAITSBURG - On April 16 – 18, Scouting America Troop 337 camped at the Lewis & Clark Trail State Park to help prepare the trails after recent spring flooding. The troop trimmed plants back, leveled and filled holes, and finally spread gravel on the trails to make seasonal maintenance easier.
The scouts coordinated their clean-up efforts with Washington State Parks Ranger Andrew Johnson. He manages the Lewis & Clark Trail and Sacajawea Historical State Parks.
"We were excited to perform this service close to home," said Troop Committee Chair Sarah Roberts. "We also had some new and potential scouts join us to learn more about scouting."
Roberts said several Waitsburg scouts helped at an informational meeting on Friday, May 1, for kids interested in the Cub Scouts. Cub Scouts are Kindergarten through 5th grade, and Scouts BSA are for graduating 5th graders through age 17.
Troop 337 was reconvened in 2023 as a joint Cub Scout pack and BSA troop. The troop is currently looking for new pack and troop members. Anyone interested in joining the BSA Troop 337 can email bs.troop.337@gmail.com. Anyone interested in local Cub Scouting should contact Becky Pinney at becky.pinney@scouting.org.
On May 2, Troop 337 assisted at the Waitsburg Lions Club Rib Feed at the fairgrounds. The troop has assisted with parking at the rib and salmon feeds. The Waitsburg Lions Club sponsors the troop as its Charter Organization through the BSA.
