WAITSBURG — Waitsburg High School’s track team attended their first meet of the season on Thursday, March 19, at Kennewick High School, competing against Hermiston, Kennewick, Prosser, and Walla Walla.
Highlights include sophomore Cheri Mathews who improved her mark by over 20 feet, reaching 82’ 10” in the javelin, placing 6th out of 50 athletes. She had a personal record (PR) in the 100-meter dash, threw the discus 69’ 7” and threw the shot put 21’ 2.25”.
Freshman Liam Kiefel threw the javelin 101’ 1” in his first high school track meet. He ran the 300-meter hurdles in 54.15, and in the triple jump he reached 33’ 7”.
Senior Addison Crenshaw threw the shot 21’ 3”, the discus 66’ 4”, and the javelin 43’ 8”. Junior Emerson Underwood participated in field events, throwing the shot 20’ 9.5”, discus 53’ 2”, and the javelin 49’2”. Sophomore Olivia Duncan threw 22’ 5.25” in the shot and 39’ 7” in the javelin. Freshman Olivia Kiefel ran the 200 meters in 33.49, jumped 9’ 11.5” in the long jump, and threw the javelin 59.6”.
“Our athletes held their own against multiple big schools, and everyone came home with at least one personal record,” said Coach Hunter Wallace.
