Members, parents, siblings and coaches from 17 eastern Washington youth wrestling teams gathered in Waitsburg for the first tournament of the five-week Little Guys wrestling season. The 10 a.m. flag salute at Kison Court included an Honor Guard. Nearly 500 competitors participated in this first big tournament hosted by Waitsburg.

Little Goose Dam, near Starbuck, is one of several locks and dams on the Snake and Columbia rivers reopened this month after a three-month closure for repairs.

[Photo Caption] The first rural mail route to serve Waitsburg was established on May 16, 1904, with H.V. Grubbe as the carrier. Not only has the mode of transportation changed dramatically, but the price of the stamp has, too. Grubbe appears to be delivering a newspaper to Box 33 while his horses patiently wait. The photo was made from a glass negative from the collection of August and Isaac Sornson.

Remarkably, the pilot of an aerial applicator airplane, Brandon Visser of St. Anthony, Idaho, walked away from a crash last Wednesday afternoon. Shaken up and in need of stitches on a cut, the 22-year-old pilot was flying for Cropland Air Service, Inc. of Waitsburg.

Fifty Years Ago

March 11, 1976

[Photo Caption] Kirk Huwe, David Smith and Greg Zuger were named to the Southeastern Washington All-Star Conference Basketball teams in a poll of coaches which was announced last weekend.

First Days of Real Sport Queen candidate to be introduced is Kim Kathryn, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Patton of Waitsburg. Kim is a junior at Waitsburg High School and started riding when she was eleven years old.

"The Whing-Ding Thing", Waitsburg High School annual variety show, will be presented in the Auditorium on Thursday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. This is the sixth annual running of this student talent show. Waitsburg citizens are invited to attend and enjoy.

Seventy-Five Years Ago

March 16, 1951

Ginny's Grill and Fountain will be the new name of Joy's Frigid Harbor which was purchased last week by N. H. Anderson.

The Waitsburg Future Farmers of America walked off with top place at the district contest held at Prescott. Second place was won by the Prescott team.

One Hundred Years Ago

March 19, 1926

Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCown have returned from Holtville, Calif, where they have farming interests and where they spend the winter months.

Dick Roberts received delivery Saturday thru the Walker Garage of one of the new improved Chevrolet roadsters.

The Waitsburg Progressive Club is celebrating its twenty-fourth birthday by holding a two-day art exhibit in the Legion Hall early in April.

One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago

March 22, 1901

C. W. Wheeler arrived home on Wednesday afternoon for a stay of a couple of days. C. W. has severed his connection as lecturer for the Woodmen of the World and will return home in a few days to remain for a time at least.

A very enjoyable party was given by the Denney family (in Spring Valley) and their boarder, Miss Mabry McCown, Thursday night of last week. Kettle candy and supper were served and the usual party program was carried out in a lively manner.

J. H. Cox has secured the contract for the woodwork in the Morgan brick. J. H. is a number one workman.
