Blurred from a quick takeoff in the rafters of the old Loundagin building on Waitsburg's Main Street, a barn owl flies over contractor Nat Farnam who has been trying to "evict" the squatter and his friend for more than two weeks.

Mary Laughery of the Dayton Historical Society helps colleagues set up the new Green Giant exhibit at the depot. The exhibit, honoring the history of the Green Giant Cannery in Dayton, runs from March through October.

[Photo Caption] The Cage will lose some depth to the new mechanical room, but it will be somewhat longer, and it will be a focal point not only of student life, but during public events such as basketball and volleyball games, too. A corridor connecting the high school and gym will become the new entrance for sporting events with a concession stand and room to gather nearby for sprots fans.

City Council gives Lions Club go-ahead for BMX track. This course will be the next major community service project of the Waitsburg Lions Club.

Walla Walla's Montgomery Ward store provided careers for a number of Walla Walla folks, most of whom remember fondly their years at the department store.

Kirk Huwe gets the classic check that most tall men strive for against Connell's Dave Cornely in the game played here last Friday. Kirk has been the outstanding rebounder for the Redbirds, and was observed this weekend by a scout from the University of Tulsa.

Marriage vows were exchanged Monday afternoon, Feb. 16 by Betty Lou Arbelbedi of Phoenix, Arizona and Gerald Vollmer of Waitsburg.

Kenneth Bickelhaupt attended a 6-day short course last week in Yakima on aerial and ground applicators of herbicides and pesticides.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Payne are the parents of a daughter born Sunday evening, Feb. 18th at the Walla Walla General Hospital.

Maurice Will was sworn in as a new member of the school board Tuesday. Mrs. Henry Roberts was elected chairman, James Hodgen vice-chairman, and Charles Zuger, clerk.

February 19, 1926

The big bass viol scholarship was awarded last week to Naomi Pollard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pollard. Miss Pollard is attending State Normal at Cheney.

The ladies of the Progressive Club will stage the 2-act patriotic drama "The Patriot Girl" at Preston Hall on Washington's Birthday, Feb. 22.

O.W. Carpenter was in town from his farm home northwest of town Saturday to complete the details of the purchase of 160 acres of wheat land known as the Mrs. Sarah Bloyd place.

One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago

Mr. and Mrs. James Parker have been married half a century. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at the large residence of Mrs. Mary E. Abbey who is a niece of Mrs. Parker on last Saturday afternoon, Feb. 16. Wilson Jones and family and Mr. N. Cooper, a cousin of the Mocks of this place, arrived in the city last Sunday from North Carolina and will locate here. Mr. Jones has already purchased a place near the mountains.
