Sydney Smith Swims to Ten Wins at Cougar Winter Open

WAITSBURG - Sydney Smith swam in her last meet as an eight-year-old on the Walla Walla Swim Team.  She will move up to the 9-10 age group for the next meet, as her birthday is on February 9. The Waitsburg third grader competed in the Cougar Winter Open at WSU.  Cougar Aquatics hosted the event at Gibb Pool on January 31 and February 1.

At the meet, Smith placed first in all 10 of her events, improved her time in seven events, and received the high-point award for the age 8-and-under group.  This was a big win for Smith after missing numerous practices due to illness.

Smith's most improved times included 2.75 seconds in the mixed 100-yard individual medley and in the 50-yard backstroke, where she knocked off 1.91 seconds.
