WAITSBURG - Waitsburg High School's boys' basketball team was up 30-9 at halftime at Prescott on Monday, December 8.
"I wish the game had ended after that," said Coach Wallace. "The first half, we played hard. We ran our stuff and had some genuinely good plays. After halftime, we played ugly and got lucky to get the win," he added.
In the 66-45 win, JJ Gleason and Landen Henry scored 17 points each to lead the Cardinals in scoring. Also in double figures were Paco Kenney with 12 points and Logan Seal with ten. Seal and Kenney each had five rebounds.
On December 10, the Cardinals traveled to Touchet and suffered a 76-38 loss. Gleason scored 13 points.
The junior varsity team lost to the Redhawks 49-36. Carter Barron led the team in scoring with 12 points.
The Cardinals played a competitive game at Oakesdale on Friday, December 12. They moved the ball well and played good defense. Unfortunately, senior Logan Seal got injured early in the game.
Blake Benevides scored 32 points in the 66-52 loss. Kenney rebounded seven, Gleason had five assists, and freshman Alex Zuniga had eight rebounds.
The JV team lost at Oakesdale 41-26. Barron had 11 points, Pennington seven, Lynch six, and Bryer Paul scored two points.
The last game of the week was against Colton on Kison Court on Saturday, December 13. The Cardinals held Colton to zero points in the first quarter and led 32-8 at halftime. Benevides scored 19 points, Gleason 18, Kenney eight, and Rollin Carpenter scored two points in the 47-29 win. Zuniga led rebounders with seven.
The JV boys also beat Colton. In the two quarters of play, the Cardinals were down 13-8 after one quarter. The boys rallied and outscored Colton in the second quarter 12-6 to win 20-19. Carter scored nine, Paul six, Pennington three, and Lynch scored two.
