SPOKANE – Walla Walla Swim Club member, Sydney Smith, took the high point award at the Winter SWAT Swim Invite on December 6 and 7 in Spokane. This is the second year the Waitsburg Elementary student has earned the high point recognition in her division at the Spokane meet.
She and her teammates competed against nine other teams, from Walla Walla to Missoula, Montana. Smith swam in the eight and under division and placed first in the 100m individual medley, 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle, and 50m breaststroke. She placed second in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly. She swam for personal bests in five of the six events.
Swimmers who place in the top six in each event in each division receive points, and the high point goes to the swimmer who accumulates the most points over the two-day meet.
Waitsburg fourth grader Cooper Smith swam for a fourth and a fifth-place finish in the 9-to-10-year-old age division.
The Smith kids will swim in the January Storm meet at Whitman College hosted by the Walla Walla Swim Club on January 3-4, 2026.
