WAITSBURG -The Waitsburg Resource Center was the recipient of two food drives for the food bank by Waitsburg School students the week before Thanksgiving break.

Stephanie Hinchliffe's first-grade class delivered 137 pounds of non-perishable items on Monday, November 24. Hinchliffe's classes have been collecting food for more than five years, and this year was one of the best years yet.

The second food drive was a competition between elementary and secondary students, organized by the high school's National Honor Society (NHS) members. NHS officers, Hope Adkins, Sarah Daves, Sara Wilson, Bea Karl, Karissa Potts, and advisor Shannon Schreindl delivered 241 pounds of non-perishable items to the food bank on Tuesday, November 25.

Schreindl said their donation was four times as large as last year's. The secondary students were declared the winners of the competition, having collected more pounds in donations than the elementary school kids.

The Waitsburg Resource Center is thankful for all donations to the food bank. The center supports the community in various ways, including donating food for spring break lunches and for Christmas bags given out at the Presbyterian Church before winter break. The center contributed to the community Thanksgiving dinner held at Town Hall and donated to the Waitsburg Swimming Pool fund.
