WAITSBURG - The Waitsburg School District presented "Honoring All Who Served," an assembly honoring veterans produced by music director Elizabeth Jagelski in the high school gym on November 10.
Principal Joe Wirtzberger welcomed the invited veterans and guests, followed by the entrance of the flags by the ASB officers. The Cardinal High School band played the Star-Spangled Banner, and the elementary students sang along.
The history of Veterans Day was read by ASB President Mattilynn Carter, followed by a moment of silence for TAPS as a wreath was placed in honor of fallen soldiers.
The kindergarten and first-grade classes sang "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and "Grand Old Flag." The second and third-graders sang "Welcome Home." "Drag Me Down" was sung by the fourth-grade class, and the fifth and sixth-grade students sang "We Are One."
Jim Romine was the guest speaker. Romine was in the Navy from 1970 to 1976. During his time in the Navy, he decided he wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement.
Veterans who attended the assembly introduced themselves, shared the branch of service they served, and named any family members connected to Waitsburg Schools.
The students found a video version of "The United States Space Force Anthem" which they shared at the assembly. The video featured powerful imagery of diverse students playing instruments, inspiring visuals of space exploration, and lyrics that resonate deeply with today's learners.
The students sang "God Bless America" and Superintendent Monty Sabin made closing remarks and gave thanks to the veterans.
Jagelski is already busy on the upcoming elementary school holiday program, and the middle and high school concert.
