One loss, one win for Bulldog Volleyball

DAYTON — Dayton lost in three sets, 17-25, 13-25, and 13-25 to Pomeroy on Oct. 14. The Bulldogs were stuck on defense for much of the match and had a hard time getting the passes to their setter for attack. Kyla Thurston led with five kills, and Jersey Slack had five assists, while Marissa Tupling had 13 digs. “The girls were scrappy, and I was proud of their hustle. Pomeroy had a strong program, and we needed to show up with our best game to compete,” said Coach Deserie Jones.

In Dayton, the Bulldogs avenged an earlier-season loss to the St. Jon-Endicott Eagles and took the match in three sets: 25-23, 25-12, and 25-22. They played with heart and stayed steady through the lulls in the match, generating energy to regain momentum when needed.

“We played with some girls a little out of their usual positions, and they made it work well. Alexa Jones had eight kills, Jersey Slack had 15 assists, and Skyla Johnson had 12 digs,” said Jones.

Lucy Trump and Slack combined for 29/31 serves and six aces. The coach credited their serves as a big part of their success.

The win put the team in a better league position before it finishes the regular season this week. Dayton is 5-7 in the league, 7-7 overall. Dayton hosted Touchet for a non-league match on Monday and traveled to Oakesdale on Tuesday. Game results will be posted online at http://www.waitsburgtimes.com.
