Seniors honored at their Cardinal's last home game for the season

WAITSBURG - Thirteen Waitsburg seniors were recognized before the start of the high school football game between the Cardinals and Garfield-Palouse on Saturday, October 11.

Cardinal cheerleaders, football players, and their families lined the football field with posters and balloons.

Cheerleaders Matti Carter, Sarah Daves, Hope Adkins, Karissa Potts, and football players Isa Reyes, Kyle Lindsey, Graycen Teal, Jarod Hankins, Brenton Segraves, Koyen Fortune, Martin Vasquez, Tucker Hamilton, and Victor Whitmore played in their last home game of the season.

Waitsburg and G-P were tied at halftime, 42-42. The Vikings outscored the Cardinals 16-0 in the second half to win 58-42.

During halftime, a dancers from Muddy Wolf Creative Dance entertained the crowd with a choreographed routine.

"Tonight's loss was a tough one. Gar-Pal came to compete. We were neck and neck in the first half, then a variety of things totally changed the momentum of the game," said Coach Gabe Kiefel.

The Cardinals could not make anything happen on offense. Two Cardinal fumbles and the Vikings getting quarterback sacks led to Waitsburg only having possession of the ball three times in the second half. The Vikings ate up a lot of time on the clock by running the ball, and Waitsburg ran out of time.

The Cardinals will play at Pomeroy on Friday, October 17, with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
