WAiTSBURG - Waitsburg High School Cardinal basketball players attended a basketball camp in Ilwaco, Washington, on June 23 through 26.
Coach Westin Wallace was excited about the number of players who signed up for the camp. He said he sees the excitement in the kids, parents, and community as they see growth from every game played.
"The camp was great," said Wallace. "The boys really enjoyed their time at the beach and the time to bond as a team. Some of the games did not go our way, but we identified the areas that were holding us back from winning, and we addressed those issues in each subsequent game. By the end of the camp, both the younger and older group won their last games."
Wallace thanked the parents for their help, including Lucas VanHoose as the second adult on the trip, as well as the Waitsburg Lions Club and the Jerry Baker family for their contributions to the sports program.
The kids are working hard and are becoming a cohesive team that wants to excel. Coach Wallace is envisioning a great basketball season in November.
