Members of the Waitsburg City Council approved a three-year contract with the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office during their regular session last Wednesday evening. The $150,000 contract guarantees that the city will receive 60 dedicated hours per week, and council members have been told by Walla Walla County Sheriff Mike Humphreys that two deputies were hired recently by the sheriff's office based on their residency in Waitsburg.

Wayne Hinchliffe appeared before City Council last week and outlined his proposed plans for a covered trucking area in the northwest part of Waitsburg. Dean Shea was a council visitor, checking on the sewer line availability on a housing site at 6th and Lincoln. Richard Crawford requested permission to remove some trees from the building site at East 8th and Coppei. He said he will replant some appropriate trees to take the place of those removed. Green Giant Plant Superintendent Bob Jameson said this week that the Waitsburg plan is now at the 79% mark on the early June peas and plans to finish the run sometime next week. A Waitsburg student at Eastern Washington State College, Verlyn L. Smith, has been named to the EWSC spring quarter honor roll.

Wheat growers will be interested in seeing the two new wheats – Elmar and Brevor – growing under field conditions near the experiment plot on the William Kibler place at Mill Creek, according to Howarg C. Burgess, County Extension Agent.
Plans for the Waitsburg Livestock club ice cream social to be held Sunday evening, July 9, at the Waitsburg city park were made at a meeting of the group at the Lewis Patton home last Friday evening.
Wheat harvest is expected to start about July 15 to 20, which is approximately one week later than last year. Fall wheat prospects look better than last year, according to reports from the Touchet Valley Grain Growers. The loan price is expected to be about $1.96 for Walla Walla county.

Mrs. Randolph Webber of Huntsville had the misfortune to have her hand caught in the electric wringer Monday and though bruised no bones were broken.
Will Wardrip proprietor of the Wardrip Transfer which operates between this city and Walla Wall daily, will have wheat during harvest and has made arrangements with Maskelyne Bros. Transfer of Walla Walla, to operate this line for a few weeks.

As Bascum Gerking stepped out of Harvey Stonecipher's house in Spring Valley early Friday morning he saw a coyote making off with a rooster in its mouth. Bascum seized his Winchester and fired two shots when the coyote dropped its prize and disappeared over the hill. The rooster jumped up and ran for the house apparently unhurt. Miss Mattie Grubbe has accepted a position in "The Times" composing room.
Walter Shuham returned Tuesday from a visit of several weeks in Denver, Colorado.
Boys of this neighborhood are turning their playful attention to tight rope walking.
A. M. Jobson has accepted a position in the dry goods store of Joseph Merchant at Walla Walla. The brick for the new Fender-Kent building has arrived from Weston and work on the structure will commence immediately.
