WAITSBURG — On Wednesday, May 21, at Valley Christian School located in the Spokane Valley, Waitsburg track athletes participated in the WIAA District 6 1B Championship meet. The top six athletes qualify for State.
In the prelims Teegan Kenney placed 9th in the100m, 10th in the 200m and placed 8th (PR) in the 300m hurdles. Brenton Segraves placed 12th in the javelin, Alyssa placed 8th in the 100m and 8th in the 800m, and Marion Duncan placed 15th in the 200m (PR).
The girls’ 4x200 relay team (Duncan, Cedar Stegall, Cheri Mathews and Hollingsworth) finished their season in seventh.
The District finals were held on Friday, May 23. Kenney placed 6th (PR) in the 300m hurdles and he placed 3rd in the long jump to earn a trip to State.
Alyssa Hollingsworth placed 7th in the 800m (PR); but qualified for State as she had surpassed the State Qualifier time mark.
The two athletes will travel with Coach Nechodom on Thursday, May 29 to compete in the WIAA 1B/2B/1A State Championship Meet at Eisenhower High School at the Zaepfel Stadium.
