Waitsburg Middle School Football Team Beats Liberty Christian

WAITSBURG - Cardinal Coach Wheat said his boys "showed up Thursday, October 3, with their helmets on tight, ready for a fight and boy, we got one."

Going into the game against Liberty Christian, Wheat felt confident in his team's passing game; however, the Patriots' defense was relentless. The Cardinal's quarterback, Liam Kiefel, worked hard and completed 16 passes. Ten were caught by teammate Uriah York for 75 yards, resulting in two touchdowns and two extra points.

The Cardinal offense ran the ball for 139 yards, with Jake Lynch carrying the ball for 89 yards and made one touchdown. Alex Watson had a solid day, and the Cardinals won 25-12.

Lynch led the middle school football team's defense with 14 tackles, and Alex Zuniga blew through Liberty Christian's offensive line four times for solo tackles and a loss of yards for the Patriots.

"All in all, we are becoming a very well-rounded team. I look forward to making adjustments this week and getting ready to go on the road for the last time this year to Pomeroy," said Wheat.

The coach thanked everyone for coming out and supporting the Cardinal's middle school football team.
