To the editor
I read The Times every week & really enjoy it. If I read a Letter To The Editor that I don’t agree with, I just chalk it up to we all see things differently. But last week, I read the letter from James Ostrander of Walla Walla. We were sitting around the table saying, “Well, that’s not true,” Writing in support of current District 1 Walla Walla County Commissioner Mayberry, Mr. Ostrander wrote, “Jenny Mayberry is the hometown candidate.” As the rest of his letter proved, Mr. Ostrander either doesn’t know what he’s talking about, or he’s being deceptive. BERTHA CLAYTON is the commissioner we need. And her great-grandparents were among the first homesteaders who settled near the Mormon Grade in Walla Walla County in the foothills of the Blue Mountains in the mid-1800s. Maybe Mr. Ostrander needs to look at the US Federal Census records for the last 150+ years or so. Bertha’s as “hometown” as you can get.
Now, our ballots are coming out soon. Locally, the race that can have the most impact on us is that for County Commissioner. For us the best candidate is obvious: Bertha Clayton. All one has to do is look at her campaign page, electberthaclayton.com. Look at her campaign committee, people who are willing to stake their names that we need Bertha Clayton. The committee is really an equal mix of political parties. But the names that stand out are two prior long-term Walla Walla County Commissioners, both of whom served as Republicans, Gregg Loney & Pam Ray. These individuals did very good jobs as commissioners & know what the job entails. They know how to treat county employees & the public and how not to treat them. We need to listen to these folks because they know how to do it right. Joining them on the committee are two retired Superior Court judges, John Lohrman and Bob Zagelow. They know what is legal behavior & what is not. We need to listen to these caring people for the sake of every person in Walla Walla County. We must elect Bertha Clayton as County Commissioner!
Respectfully,
