Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

Treasure at The Liberty

Performances this weekend

DAYTON - The Missoula Children's Theater will present an adaption of the classic "Treasure Island" at The Liberty Theatre at 7 p.m. on August 9 and 3 p.m. on August 10.

Talented youth from the community have been working with MCT director Zoey Paulson and Leila Abou-Jaoude, who will play the role of Long John Silver. Rehearsals and workshops were held daily this week in preparation for the two performances. For many Touchet Valley kids, participation in an MCT production is the first step towards participating in Touchet Valley Arts Council's live productions.

On Sunday, the tour team arrived in their bright red MCT truck carrying costumes, props, backdrops, and everything else needed to put on the play besides the cast.

The Liberty Theater began working with the children's theater shortly after the Dayton venue was remodeled in 2001. The TVAC-hosted visits are sponsored through grants from United Way, Warren Community Action Fund, Skyline Juniors, and the Dayton/Columbia County Washington Fund.

Past shows have included last year's "The Secret Garden," "The Jungle Book," and "Pinocchio."

The MCT's mission is to foster creativity and the innate capabilities of participants through community-driven performing arts experiences.

All ticketes are $5, and on sale at libertytheater.org and at the door.
