The Times - Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

WAITSBURG — Waitsburg’s Men’s track team placed fourth out of eleven teams at the District 9 1B track meet at Pomeroy High School on Tuesday, April 9. Dayton placed 8th, and Prescott tied for 10th place.

Reuben Yutzy led the way with first-place finishes in the shot put, high jump, and the 4 x 100 relay (Teegan Kenney, Blake French, Brenton Segraves, Yutzy).  Fredy Chavez had PRs in three events: 100 meters, discus and javelin.

Waitsburg, Dayton, and Prescott had several athletes finish in the top eight.

100-meters:  Hikaru Iwamoto 1st and Luke Winkler 4th (both Dayton); French 7th, Segraves 8th (PR)

200-meters: Iwamoto 4th (Dayton)

4 x 100 relay:  Waitsburg 1st (47.15), Dayton 4th and Prescott 7th

Shotput:  Yutzy 1st (41’ 9 ½”), Segraves 5th (PR)

Discus:  Yutzy 2nd (113’ 7 ½ “)

High jump:  Yutzy 1st (5’6”), French 4th

Long jump:  Kenney 2nd, Kaden Tiedemann 3rd (Prescott)

Triple jump:  French 2nd, Tristan Rennaker 5th (Dayton), Tony Madrigal 7th and Tiedemann 8th (both Prescott)

Javelin: Scott Lopez 6th (Prescott)

400-meters: Eduardo Valdovinos 6th and Kevin Ortega 8th (both Prescott)

In the women’s events, Addison Crenshaw and Michelle Chavez each had PRs in two events, the shot put and javelin.

100-meters: Alyssa Hollingsworth 2nd

200-meters: Miranda Granados 6th and Jacky Cardenas 7th (both Prescott), Marion Duncan 8th

400-meters: Duncan 4th, Cedar Stegall 6th

800-meters: Hollingsworth (PR) 2nd

100-meter hurdles: Yesenia Elloqui 2nd and Irma Serrotos 4th (both Prescott)

4 X 100 relay: Prescott 6th

Discus: Jackie Sanchez (Prescott) 7th

Javelin: Maddison Matheny 2nd (Prescott)

Long jump: Hollingsworth 7th, Granados 5th and Elloqui 6th (both Prescott)

High jump: Makenna Barron 4th

On April 16, the Cardinals will compete at the NE 1B/2B league meet.
