The Waitsburg Celebration Days Committee will be running a Duck Derby on May 17. Ducks will race down the Touchet River beginning at the Preston Avenue bridge and ending at the Main Street bridge. Ducks may be purchased for $5 each and the owner of the fastest duck will take home $500. Second place receives $250, third takes $100 and fourth place wins $50. Duck owners do not need to be present to win. Winners will be announced at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 18 at the Waitsburg Fairgrounds.

Glenn Baker, Austin, MN was a Waitsburg and Walla Walla visitor this past weekend.
Weekend guest of Russ and Barb Knopp were here with their daughter and new grandson, Heidi and Brock Winegar, visiting from Cheney.
Spring vacation guests at the Tom Baker home were Charles and Patty Baker and two of their four children, Daniel and Emilie. Peggy Henry and son Anthony of Richard were also in town for a short visit.
Eugene Hansen, son of Norman and Margaret Hansen of Waitsburg, earned Academic Distinction honors for the 1998 fall semester at Whitman College. Hansen is a senior history major and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1995.

[Photo Caption] Princess Adelle Ford and Queen of the 1974 Days of Real Sport were honored guests at Commercial Club Tuesday. They cut the cake for the celebration of the 61st running of the May races.

Candidates for race queen started their button sale Thursday. Candidates are Betty Williamson, Dolores Egli, Eileen Nutting, Deloris Brown and Joan Burres of Prescott.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. V. Zuger entertained at a Chinese dinner Friday evening after the Junior Prom in honor of their son Bill who will graduate next month.

Fire of undetermined origin totally destroyed the fine big barn on the Morris Woods ranch, situated 2 miles west of this city, at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
Mutt Greer gave a little card party out at his home Saturday night, near Prescott. Besides neighbors there were several guests from Waitsburg. Everyone enjoyed themselves playing cards, eating and visiting.
Fred McConnell, a junior at Waitsburg High School, has accepted the position of elevator boy in the Denney Building in Walla Walla.

J.M. Chew a leading citizen of Waitsburg visited in Walla Walla. He stated that Waitsburg is one of the best towns in the country and does more business than any city of its size in the west. Mr. Chew reported that spring work is done and all wheat that was not killed out, looks strong and healthy.
Rufus Clapp, a wealthy Eureka Flat farmer, and Miss Gertrude Tuller, of Milton, were married there Sunday by Elder R.L. Kirland of the Christian Church.
