Cardinals Split Doubleheader

WAITSBURG - The Cardinal baseball team split its doubleheader with Sunnyside Christian (SSC) on Saturday, March 30, in Waitsburg. 

Isa Reyes had a solid day pitching, holding SSC to two runs in six innings in the first game.

Jayce Gleason started the bottom of the first inning with a lead-off walk. Klint Kuykendall and Quinn Benevidas reached base, and with stolen bases and an SSC fielding error, the three scored to give the Cardinals an early 3-0 lead.

The Cardinals scored five runs in the fourth inning on five hits. They had three runs in the fifth and after scoring one in the sixth inning, the game was called due to the mercy rule as the Cardinals led 12-2.

Gleason led the team, scoring three runs, and Benevidas had five stolen bases.

Sunnyside Christian won the second game 12-8. Issac Mahre started on the mound for the Cardinals.  Gleason and Jarod Hankins pitched in relief. 

The Cardinals had a big fourth inning, scoring five runs. Cyson Morris and Hankins led the team in runs scored, with two each. 

On Saturday, April 13, the Cardinals will play at Liberty Christian.
