WP sophomore Tristan Newman will make his second appearance at the state wrestling tournament at the Tacoma Dome this weekend, after placing fourth at the regional tournament here Friday. Mat Classic 26 begins Friday. WP wrestlers faced stiff competition in Kittitas. Of the four competing wrestlers, only Newman claimed a win. He won three of his five matches, securing fourth place in the region.

The students of Waitsburg Elementary will be jumping rope and shooting hoops to help fight heart disease and stroke – the nation's No. 1 killer – on Thursday, Feb. 25, the school will hold its Fourth Annual Jump Rope for Heart/Shoot Hoops for Heart event. Students will jump rope or shoot hoops to raise funds for the American Heart Association. These funds help support cardiovascular research and educational programs, such as Heart Power.

February 25.1949

Bill Wardrip who carries the rural mail on the Star Route to Clyde, reports that a large lake has formed in the lowlands there and that people in the far side of the water have rigged up a row boat and when they see the mail car, they row across to meet him.

Mrs. Edith Gibson of Walla Walla and Henry Conover were married in the Presbyterian Manse in Walla Walla on Feb. 9.

Six senior boys including Joe Cobb, Gay Johnson, Lester Callahan, Gerald Gibson, Bill Zuger and Bill Allen played their last game Friday night for Wait High since all are members of the senior class.

February 29, 1924

Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock, Coach Quackenbush and the basketball squad composed of Carver, J. Kanz, Kenaston, Light McConnell, Roberts and Arnold departed by auto for Cheney. They will compete in a basketball tournament against teams from Vera, Spangle, Colville, Davenport, Hartline, Kellogg, Spirit Lake, Washtucna, Steptoe and Pullman.

Joe E. Free road foreman of District No. 2, started his road outfit out early Monday morning for the spring repair work on the county roads of this district. There are 12 men and 34 head of horse in the outfit at the Hart Bridge near Prescott.

March 3, 1899

Mrs. Jennie Marvin and Mrs. Anna Harper each received a new "99" Rambler bicycle this week through the agent, Platt Morrow.

Mrs. Marie Stewart entertained last Thursday evening in honor of Miss Helen Squires. A few intimate friends of Miss Squires were present and they report a very pleasant evening.

Mrs. C. B. Preston is spending the week with her parents in Walla Walla. If she knew the sorry appearance Charles makes since her departure she would surely cut her visit short.
