On October 5, Cardinal volleyball players, coaches, families, and community members wore red, white, and blue to honor the memory of Melissa Harting. As the names of the girls on the HS team were called, they each put a rose and a flag on the bleachers in her place as their names were called. In recognition of her intense love for the country, "Proud to be an American" was played as the evening ended.

WAITSBURG - The high school volleyball team had a busy week, playing two league matches on their home court and three matches in the Kiona Benton Tournament.

Against Prescott on October 3, the Cardinals lost the match 13-25, 25-15, 20-25, 16-25. "The girls fought hard for each point. The spirited fans helped them keep their energy up," said Coach Barron.

Seniors Peyton Struckmeier, Kylee Henry, and Makenna Barron played well at the net, and senior Alyssa Seagraves and junior Alyssa Hollingsworth contributed with digs and aces.

The Cardinals beat winless Touchet in three straight sets on October 5: 25-16, 25-9, 25-14 giving them a 2-7 record.

"Tonight was hard. This team faced a tragedy, pulled together, and came out with a win. Madison Kaehler stepped in tonight to play middle hitter for us and had outstanding net play. The support from the community was amazing tonight as well," said Barron.

Henry recorded 12 aces, Barron contributed with six kills, and freshman Kayla Mikesell had three kills and four aces.

The girls who traveled to Ki-Be on Saturday, October 7, had the opportunity to play in a tournament setting for the first time. Coach Barron associated the noise level and multiple games at once, which messed up their focus.

"They were finally able to relax and play their game in the third set against Zillah," said Barron

Against Toppenish, the team lost 8-25, 16-25, 17-25.  Ki-Be beat the Cardinals 25-8, 25-11 and 25-13.  In the third match of the day, the Cardinals lost 13-25,13-25, and 23-25.
