Preschool players waiting for their turn to shoot

WAITSBURG-Between 25 to 35 future basketball players have been practicing dribbling, passing, and shooting skills in the Waitsburg gym on Thursdays. Organizers Katelyn Stahl and Chelsie Abel started the practices for Pre-K to second-grade boys and girls on January 19.

Children from Waitsburg, Prescott, and Dayton participate in warm-up exercises before breaking into age-appropriate groups to practice skills. With the help of parents, including Dane Henze, John Langford, and Ryan Stahl, leaders Stahl and Abel have the players active during the one-hour practice time. The girls and boys are all smiles as they rotate between stations practicing their skills.

The eight-week session comes to an end on March 16. Hopefully, these players will continue to hone their skills and compete in the future. Maybe, someday we will see them at a state basketball tournament.
