SLC Public Workshop Series: Summer Sustainability Series

WALLA WALLA—The Sustainable Living Center (SLC) is excited to announce the Summer Sustainability Public Workshop Series.

Join SLC staff and guest presenters this summer as they explore pollinators, up-cycled art, landscape design, sustainable gardening practices, and preserving the summer harvest.

The series kicked off on Monday, July 18, with a workshop on curating pollinator-friendly gardens.

Artist and internationally renowned garden designer Kate Frey shared her expertise and resources, including Annie’s Annuals, Perennials, and the Xerces Society. Frey can be reached by email at katefrey@mac.com.

Upcoming series events include:

Thursday, July 28: Artist and educator, Anne Nelson, will demonstrate how to reshape our view of forgotten items and look at everyday objects through the eyes of an artist. Using hidden treasures from Builders ReSupply, participants will transform ordinary household items into art for their homes and yards.

Thursday, August 4 and 11: Participants in this two-part series will learn to design a low water landscape, tour a low water garden to explore design strategies, and have their draft design reviewed.

Tuesday, August 16: Sustainable gardening practices and no-till and no dig practices to enrich the soil and benefit the environment will be taught. Get your hands in the dirt and learn to create abundance in gardens.

Tuesday, August 23: Jennifer Kleffner of Miles Away Farm will instruct how to easily preserve the summer harvest. Learn how to make fridge pickles, a quick solution for utilizing summer crops with no canning required.

Sign up for the workshop to discover creative, sustainable practices to enrich your life. SLC is introducing a ‘pay what you can’ model for workshop registration.

The center said in a press release, “We believe the cost of a workshop should not be an obstacle to discovery and learning!”

This workshop is open to the public. Registration is required.

To register and for more information about individual workshops, please call (509) 524-5218 or visit the SLC website at https://www.slcww.org/public-workshop-series
