"Mandi was my original outlet in a commercial establishment. We have been in business together, or cahoots, as I like to say, for about six years," said Regina Weldert, owner of Rey's Roast. "Mandy is a marvelous, marvelous person, and I am so proud of her for going to raise a family. I am absolutely thrilled for her!"

DAYTON-Mandi Wendt has announced the closure of the Weinhard Café and Bakery.

Wendt said in a Facebook post, there is more to running a small restaurant than just serving people. The time spent planning the menu, cleaning, maintaining the building and equipment, and doing the book work is enough to make a person question why anyone on earth would want to.

Greeting patrons as the come to the door is the charming history of Mandi's investment in the café and the community.

"I can tell you why a person wants to do it, though. It is because they love doing it," she said. "After seven years of ownership, my love has shifted from my work to my children and family."

Wendt is looking forward to having more time for her husband, Justin, and their two children. They are expecting their third child early next year.

"We are always closed the week of Christmas, so we have decided to make Friday, December 18, our last day of operations. I hope this gives you ample time to use your gift certificates and get the last of your favorites from the café," she said on Facebook.

Wendt said working side by side with Jennifer (Villaro) over the years had been a pleasure, and she greatly appreciates her customer loyalty and dedication, especially during the COVID-19 challenge.

Wendt purchased the building and restaurant business on Main Street in March 2014.
