WAITSBURG WILL HOST FIREWISE MEETING

Free program will focus on past fires and future prevention

 


WAITSBURG—The Waitsburg City Council invites the public, and especially landowners, to attend a free Firewise meeting at the Lions Club Building at the Waitsburg Fairgrounds on Tues., June 25 at 7 p.m.

Speakers from the Department of Natural Resourc- es, the Walla Walla County Conservation District, Fire Districts No. 2 and No. 3, emergency management and more will provide information on how commu- nities can work together to take action to prevent fu- ture losses.

The Walla Walla County EMD will present a give a Power Point presentation prepared after the 2018 Woosley fires in California with firsthand pictures and accounts from local agencies that responded. The presentation will also include cost-share information and stories from the Columbia Complex fires in 2006.

The program will address the best sources of in- formation and action homeowners can take to reduce fire risk and home ignitions, fuels and what the De- partment of Natural Resources provides, as well as what NOT to expect for help.

Attendees will also learn more about local wild- fires, and the variety of Walla Walla County emergen- cy services available, from Alerts to Safety Zones as well as how homeowners can assist in a fire incident.
