DW Cruises Past Tonasket, 49-7; On to State Tournament

BREWSTER, Wash. – The Dayton-Waitsburg football team took another long road trip Friday, and again came away with a lopsided win. In a crossover seeding game here, DW routed the 2B District 6 champion team Tonasket, 49-7.

The win sets up a rematch Saturday against league rival Tri-Cities Prep in Pasco, in the first round of state playoffs. The game starts at noon at Edgar Brown Stadium.

Against Tonasket, running back Ben Kleck and receiver Travis Crockett each scored three touchdowns.

The DW defense also had an outstanding game, allowing no scoring by the Tonasket offense. Tonasket's only touchdown came on a 95-yard interception return in the second quarter.

DW jumped out to a 22-0 lead in the first quarter. Crockett caught a 42-yard pass from quarterback Jacob Dunn early in the quarter. Kleck then got his first TD on a 17-yard run. Crockett scored again on a 31-yard Dunn pass.

In the second quarter, Kleck scored his second touchdown on a 14-yard run. After DW gave up the lone Tonasket score, running back Cal Martin got on the board, running the ball in from the five. DW went into halftime with a 35-7 lead.

DW scored twice more in the second half, on an 11-yard Kleck run in the third quarter and a Crockett 37-yard pass reception in the fourth.

For the game, Kleck ran for 102 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns. Martin carried the ball four times for 14 yards and a TD.

Crockett caught five passes in the game for 155 yards. He scored three touchdowns. Receiver Tanner Bren caught five passes for 76 yards.

Dunn was 16 for 27 passing for 293 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw one interception. Dunn also rushed for 24 yards on five carries.

DW goes into the state tournament with a 9-1 overall record. They were league champions in the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference, going 7-0.
