Waitsburg Runners Fare Well at Sunfair Invite

Emily Adams finishes 2nd in varsity heat race; Callas places 13th

YAKIMA - The Waitsburg cross country team attended the 43rd Sunfair Invite in Yakima on Saturday.

Emily Adams and Landon Callas started the combined Varsity Heat Race #4 together. Adams was 2nd out of 20 runners in the heat, with a season record of 19:21.94. Callas finished 13th out of 26 runners with a personal record of 17:22.84.

Of Callas, Waitsburg coach Ann Adams said, “Landon ran an excellent race, he looked good, relaxed and strong. Landon used the hills both up and down to his advantage.”

“Emily also had a great race,” said Coach Adams. “She paced well in the front pack, attacking the uphill parts of the course and using them to gain ground on others around her.”

In the senior race, Skylar Wood came in 21st out of 62 runners, with a time of 18:56, for a season record for a 3 mile course. “Skylar ran a great race, he ran smart and strong, his best race of the season so far,” said Adams.

In the same race, Joe came in 53rd, with a season best of 22:11.29. TJ Morrison finished 58th, with a personal record of 24:27.46.

Daltin Lambert ran in the Sophomore race, finishing 53rd out of 206 runners, with a personal record time of 19:53.99 for three miles. “He ran smart, getting a spot early and maintaining,” said Adams of Lambert.

“It was a great day for a meet, windy but sunny and not too hot,” said Adams. “The Cards hadn’t run at Sunfair so it was a new course and proved to be a challenging one. The kids all ran really well, I am very proud of every one of them. Our hard hill work-outs paid off for this course that is for sure.”
