Summer Reading Programs are Under Way

 


Dayton Memorial Library offers summer reading programs for adults and children

DAYTON—Summer reading program for adults and children are in the works at the Dayton Memorial Library, beginning on June 18. Readers can pick up their Summer Reading Challenge packets, and Bingo cards, from the library on that day, said the librarians.

The children’s reading program will be held at 1:00 p. m. Monday through Friday, with different activities scheduled for each day of the week.

On Monday children will work on a collaborative art project for the Columbia County Fair.

Tuesdays will be set aside for a shared reading experience.

Gnome and Fairy Garden basket making, and researching healthy snacks, are on the schedule for Wednesdays, in June.

In July, there will be field trips to the Palus Museum, the Boldman House, HomeStreet Bank, and the Smith Hollow Schoolhouse.

During the month of August, there will be a balloon challenge and other outdoor games, taking place also on Wednesdays.

Word game/kite making are on the schedule for Thursdays, and on Fridays “Tex, the Library Dog” will visit for “Sit, Stay and Read”.

Completion of just one row on the Bingo reading card will entitle children and adults to special treats.

A party and a grand prize drawing will be held at the end of the summer reading program on August 10.

Prizes include twenty Dayton Dollars from the Chamber of Commerce for one child in each of three categories who complete the entire Bingo card, and seventy five Dayton Dollars for one adult for completing the entire Bingo card.

Prescott Powers Up for Reading

Program includes Pacific science center and alex zerbe visits

PRESCOTT – Prescott’s Summer Reading Program kicked off with a summer party on June 14 where kids helped decorate the library’s flower pots and enjoyed cool refreshments. Everyone is invited to participate in the free program that meets every Friday, beginning on June 24.

“This year’s program is all about sports, health, fitness, and learning how fun the library is. Each week there will be fun learning activities to get the kids out of the house and into the library.” said librarian Stephanie Castaneda. The theme is, “On your mark, get set . . . READ!”

The library has also planned some extra-special events including a visit from the Pacific Science Center on June 28 and an appearance by comedian, juggler, and magician Alex Zerbe on July 14.

Kids who complete the program by filling out their reading logs earn prizes all along the way. The library will wrap up the program with a Harry Potter party.

Summer Reading in Waitsburg

WAITSBURG – The start of the Weller Public Library Summer Reading Program means fun for everyone. Summer storytime for little ones will begin on June 20, at the regular time of 10:30-11:30 a.m. This year’s Summer Reading Program also begins June 20, and takes place every Monday afternoon from 2-3 p.m. through Aug. 1.

Library manager Rosie Warehime says this year’s theme is “On Your Mark, Get Set. . . Read!” Participants will enjoy a reading time, a fun activity, snacks and drawings. They will track the books they read in order to earn prizes.

Participants may join at any time. “Come join us, we’ll have fun!” Rosie said.
