Outsiders Took Up Forum Time

Dear Editor,

Several Clarkston area residents came to Waitsburg attempting to discredit Representative McMorris Rodgers. In the process they took up a good portion of the town hall meeting held so local area residents could visit with their representative. Apparently “local area” includes a 1.5-hour drive—one-way though there was a closer meeting in Dayton.  Ms. Bates and company have done this at several other McMorris Rodgers’ events at other locations according to one source.

Ms. Bates researched enough to find the numbers she wanted. She missed the ones that showed insurance for low income folks has been available through the state for some time, premiums based on ability to pay. Unfortunately, as with vehicle insurance, some make one payment only.

It would be interesting to know how many of the 81,300 folks to whom Ms. Bates referred (insured under the Affordable Care Act in eastern Washington) will choose to pay the fine rather than premiums. Just curious, will hospitals be required to report those without insurance to make sure they pay the fine?  Not likely with existing privacy laws.
