WP Girls Fall to TCP and DeSales

WAITSBURG – The Lady Card basketball team had a discouraging weekend, falling 56-18 to Tri-Cities Prep on Friday and 57-27 to DeSales on Saturday. Both were conference matches.

WP Coach J.T. Elsey said Friday’s game was especially hard to watch.

“The team started the game dull and the aggressiveness was not there. We were unable to run our defensive sets and had trouble on defense. TCP had two good shooters who took advantage of the poor defense. We still struggle to make the shots that we get and we are still averaging 30+ turnovers a game,” said Elsey.

WP’s Kassidy Kuykendall scored over half the game points, racking up four field goals and going two-for-two at the foul line for ten points, total. Hannah Grant made the only three-point bucket of the night.

Elsey said Saturday’s game against the skills DeSales Irish was an improvement. “We did a little better on turnovers in this game – we only had 26, which I believe is our best so far,” said Elsey. “Analise Salazar had a very good game. She scored ten points, had six rebounds and worked really hard. Hannah Grant had seven points and four rebounds and Tayler Jones had six rebounds and led the team in steals with five.”

Jones, Grant and Caitlyn Mohney made one three-point field goal each and the Cards had went 100% at the free throw line with Grant and Salazar scoring two each.
