Open House to Discuss Sales Tax Increase

DAYTON – The city of Dayton will present three open house events from 6-8 p.m. on Jan. 20, 22 and 28 at City Hall to discuss and provide details on the proposed increase on sales and use tax. Members of the Dayton Transportation Benefit District and city council will be available to answer any questions. Refreshments will be provided. The city plans to ask for voter approval of a sales and use tax increase this February to help maintain city streets. The increase would raise sales tax from 8.1 percent to 8.3 percent. The special election ballots will go out to voters on Jan. 23, and voting will be completed on Feb. 10. A simple majority, or at least 50 percent, voter approval is required for the measure to pass.
