CARDINALS SUFFER LEAGUE LOSS TO WWVA, 55-48

WAITSBURG - The WP boys' basketball team fell behind early at home against Walla Walla Valley Academy Thursday night, and couldn't bounce back, losing 55-48. The Cardinals recovered Friday, however, as they took an easy win from Weston-McEwen, 53-34.

On Thursday, the Knights jumped to a 14-6 first quarter lead, and then played fairly evenly with the Cards the rest of the way.

For the game, Owen Lanning led WP scoring with 15 points, including a stellar 5 for 5 from the foul line. Kyle Gradwohl and Jacob Dunn each had eight points, including two three-point shots apiece. Devin Acevedo and Chance Leroue scored five points each. Dunn also led the Cardinals in rebounds, with eight.

Against the TigerScots, also at home, W-P had a much more solid first quarter, leading 16-10 after one. The Cardinals took a 23-17 lead into the half. They then cruised in the second half, outscoring W-M 30-17 in the final two frames.

Gradwohl led the Cardinals' attack with 13 points, including two three-pointers, followed by Leroue with 12 and Dunn with 10. Dunn and Kaimen Suffia each had six rebounds.
