Kids Football Camp a “Huge Success”

WAITSURG - Coach Jeff Bartlow wrapped up his 15th Kids Football Camp last week, and deemed it a "huge success." Thirty-five athletes participated in what Bartlow describes as "a rich tradition and one that the kids love to be a part of."

Players work on basic skills as well as teamwork and sportsmanship. The camp was split into two sessions. Mornings were dedicated to offense (catching, throwing, running and blocking) and special teams (kicking, punting and snapping). Athletes then play two 7x7 games before breaking for lunch. Back on the field, the afternoon focus was on defense drills and punt, pass and kick distances, with another couple of 7x7 games before a final obstacle. At the end of the week, awards are given. This year Scott Leamy received MVP for the older kids and Daylen Morrow was MVP for the younger group.

Bartlow says the best part of camp is that the high school payers are able to coach the younger kids. "They were all in the camp as campers, being coached by players they admired and watched. Now they get to return the favor and they love it!" said Bartlow. "My guys love to coach them."

Bartlow expressed thanks to assistant coaches Allen Wilson and Josh Wilson as well as his high school helpers: Levi Hatfield, Tristan Newman, Jacob Dunn, Talen Larsen, Luke Alexenko, Chance Leroue, Jason Carter, Zion Branson, Mark Montgomery and Devin Acevedo. He also thanked Elenora Montgomery and Pam Alexenko for their help throughout the day.

"They helped with registration and lunch and clean up. They were great - it takes a lot of people to pull it off" Bartlow said.
