WP Edges Dayton in 1st Round Playoffs

PRESCOTT - The Waitsburg Prescott baseball team advanced in the playoffs after beating Dayton on a two-run rally in the sixth inning in their first round game last week.

Dayton pitcher Lowden Smith was unhittable for the first three innings, though the Tigers got an unearned run in the second without a hit, after a two-base throwing error. In the fourth, Kyle Gradwohl homered, for WP's first hit, putting the Tigers up 2-0.

The Bulldogs evened the score in the fourth inning. After loading the bases, Dayton got two unearned runs of their own on a throwing error at first.

WP got their winning runs in the sixth after they finally got to Smith. Two singles and a double, along with a wild pitch from Smith, put the game out of reach.

For the game, the Tigers had seven hits and the Bulldogs five. Gradwohl and Devin Acevedo each had two hits for WP.

It was the career final game for six Dayton seniors: Logan Hays, Robert Loper, Cruz Ramirez, Smith, Guy Spalinger, and Christian Warner.
