Lady Dawgs Win One, Lose One in GPTO Double Header

DAYTON - The Lady 'Dawgs won 3-1 then lost, 15-4 in an at home league play double header against Garfield-Palouse_ Tekoa Oakesdale on May 5. The game left the Bulldogs standing 4-6 in league and 6-11 overall.

Bulldog assistant coach Desirae Jones said the teams were very well matched and both pitched strong games. "In game one we were tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the sixth. Taylor Frame led off and got on base with an error. She advanced to second on a wild pitch. Kellie Moore moved her to third with a single to left field. Madison Mings then hit a double down the left field line that scored two runs."

Game two was competitive until the seventh inning when GPTO went from a one point lead, with a score of 5-4, to knocking in ten runs while holding the 'Dawg's scoreless. "GPTO really blew it open with ten funs off ten hits," said Jones. "Nine of those runs came with two outs. My girls were fielding everything but the Vikings just hit in the gap for several batters in a row."

Ward had eight strikeouts for the day and allowed only one walk. The Viking's Chandler fanned 11 and walked five. Dayton will have an alumni game at 11 a.m. on Saturday before beginning the first round of District playoffs on Tuesday.
