MILTON-FREEWATER - The Dayton Bulldogs played hard against a tough Mac-Hi team, losing the opening round of the Milton Freewater Open Invite tournament Friday night, 50-32. The Bulldogs trailed by only two at the half, 23- 21, but were outscored 18-7 in the third quarter, as the Pioneers pulled away.
Logan Hays led Dayton's scorers with eight points, followed by Ian Smay and Ben Kleck with six each. Cruz Ramirez was dominant on the boards, pulling down 12 Rebounds.
In Saturday's loser's bracket game, Dayton dominated Helix, winning 41- 26. Zach Waggoner led the scoring with 12 points, followed by Ben Kleck with nine and Logan Hays with eight.
The Bulldogs played their first game on the season on December 3 in Pomeroy, losing to the Pirates 57-34, in a non-league game. The 'Dogs started out slow, with four points in the first period and eight in the second. They trailed 28-12 at halftime.
Zach Wagonner paced the Dayton team with 12 points, while Ben Kleck put up seven. The bulldogs hurt their cause with 21 turnovers for the game.
This week the Bulldogs continued their season with a rematch Tuesday night at home against Pomeroy.
On Saturday they travel to rival Waitsburg-Prescott, followed by a game in Finley against Riverside Saturday.
