    Jillian Beaudry, The Times|Mar 29, 2012

WAITSBURG - The bunk house is less dangerous than the city previously believed and the Waitsburg City Council is considering different options to get it removed. The bunk house, formerly an apple-packing plant located east of the McGregor plant, collapsed late 2011 during a wind storm. The city had talked about removing it, but had concerns that the building contained asbestos or lead and could be very costly to get rid of because of the possible toxicity. The city had re-addressed the issue in February because it was learned leaving the bunk...

Speaking of renewable lifestyles; I recently read actor/green living activist, Ed Begley's, "Guide to Sustainable Living." Ed has got it down in this book, suggesting several ways to address our own carbon footprint with ideas on how to capture and store power for home and...

  • Health District Search Begins For New CEO

    Imbert Matthee, The Times|Mar 22, 2012

DAYTON - Columbia County Health Systems Chair Ted Paterson fully expected the hospital board's retreat this Thursday to be about budgets, the recent rural hospital conference in Spokane and .CEO Charlie Button's contract renewal. But Paterson and other board members set the retreat agenda before Button resigned from his post on March 10, so now the five-member body that governs the public health district for Dayton and Waitsburg will have a new priority to discuss: finding Button's replacement. "It's not going to happen overnight," said...

We are becalmed in the center between wheat price potential highs and lows in a zone that has persisted since mid-November. Channels of this magnitude and duration (about 75 cents per bushel and 3.5 months) usually require something new entering the mind of the market to break out. The overall trend is a very mild upward bias, with higher highs and higher lows as the price ping-pongs slowly up the channel. The futures markets are labeled "futures" because they anticipate price.
