LEWISTON – Former Waitsburg High athlete Owen Lanning, now a junior at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, has qualified for the NAIA National outdoor track and field finals this week in the decathlon event. The meet will begin Thursday in Gulf Shores, Ala. The decathlon includes ten separate events held over two days – Thursday and Friday. When a hiking trail thaws after it has been frozen for a couple of weeks, trekking it is a bit like taking a long walk in wet concrete. Monday was sunny and bright, so I decided to give the Rock Hill Trail, on Port of Columbia property near Dayton's west end, a go anyway.
