Six Waitsburg residents attending Washington State University have earned recognition on the President’s Honor Roll for the fall 2006...

  • TEENY MCMUNN: MY RECIPE BOX

    Teeny McMunn, The Times|Feb 16, 2017

I chose this recipe for this week because I have been lacking in vegetable dishes. I mentioned before that my vegetables are mostly eaten plain. This was served at our church coffee hour and was a hit. One other person served something similar, but with brown rice added. It was served with tortilla chips, but I think it could be served as a side dish. Ingredients: 1/2 onion, chopped 1 green bell pepper, chopped 1 bunch green onions, chopped 2 jalapeno peppers, chopped 1 tablespoon minced garlic 1 pint cherry tomatoes, quartered 1 (8 ounce)...

  • TEENY MCMUNN: MY RECIPE BOX

    Teeny McMunn, The Times|Feb 9, 2017

As promised, here is a recipe for Red Velvet Cake. I didn't make it, as I didn't want to have a whole cake around to eat. But I did make one many years ago, when they were the rage. While reading this recipe, I noticed it calls for white vinegar and soda. That combination usually makes a recipe light. And the frosting calls for cooking the flour and milk first. Interesting. So if you make it, please let me know. If you don't want to have to eat a whole cake, think about how nice it would be to share a slice or two with someone who could use a...

  • TeenY MCMUNN: MY RECIPE BOX

    The Times|Feb 2, 2017

I have made this casserole several times EXCEPT I haven't used the artichoke hearts and red pepper. The other person in my household doesn't like red peppers, but the next time I make it, I will get the artichoke hearts and red peppers. I'm thinking it would really enhance the flavor and the red peppers can be picked out ;) So I've made it without those items, and usually added peas. This recipe makes two dishes; one for freezing, one for dinner. I cut the recipe in half, and it serves...

  • TEENY MCMUNN: MY RECIPE BOX

    Teeny McMunn, The Times|Jan 26, 2017

This was served at our church potluck luncheon. Potlucks are a great place to try new recipes, and also to take a favorite one to share. I have a similar recipe, called “Overnight Salad,” that doesn’t use the pasta or ham, but adds cabbage. This makes a nice size salad and would be great as a meal in the summer, or for lunch with some homemade bread. It can be made the night before, which is handy if you are having guests. The picture, if I can copy it off well enough from the printed recipe, shows it in a trifle bowl, so that you can see the d...

    The Times|Jan 19, 2017

Ten Years Ago January 25, 2007 Columbia County resident Brian Black has long held a vision of a memorial that would help honor all of the local veterans who have served their country. As it turns out, this is a vision that many want to help become reality. Several years ago, Waitsburg constructed a Veterans Memorial Wall, which was paid for by donations. Black, who helped fly a large American flag over East Main and Fifth streets during All Wheels Weekend several years ago, would like to see another memorial constructed in Dayton. Waitsburg...
