McCaw is among the many in Waitsburg who are mourning Elliott’s death last Friday in a collision along U. S. Highway 12 at Airport Road. She was 23 years old. Photo caption: Waitsburg Troop Leader...

I'm going to squeeze two in because many will look at the name, persimmon pudding, and think, "not interested!" but perhaps the pretzels will interest you-like Bill P. My friend, Martha, shared some of the persimmon pudding with me. It is not a pudding, like we think of, but a moist bread. I would not have tried it, either baking or tasting, had not I been gifted some. I had no idea what a persimmon was, except perhaps a crayon color. I found them at Andy's. Martha said they had to get squishy...

A hearty thanks goes out to the Waitsburg staff and students for their help in making this issue possible. This special edition would also not be possible without the support of the many local businesses whose advertising helps make these pages possible. Please consider these companies, large...

How to Diamante Waitsburg Elementary School’s second grade teacher Wenda Parr tasked her students with writing a diamante poem. A diamante poem creates the shape of a diamond. The poem can be used in two ways, either comparing and contrasting two different subjects, or naming synonyms at the beginning of the poem and then antonyms for the second half for a subject. House About the Clouds Patricia Keeney, who lives just down the road from the house in this photo informed Bill that the old home belonged to Art and Ernie Alford. She notes: "This is Art and Ernie's original home. The young Alford family dealt with scarlet fever early in the (last) century. Art and Ernie survived, as did an older sister, Maxine. Ernie was quite affected by the illness and Art became, for all intents and purposes, his caretaker. Art and Ernie, both life-long bachelors, later...

This recipe was gifted to us by Daniel Rossi, via Vicki Sternfeld-Rossi, a name you will recognize from her articles in our paper. She brought this stew to share with the Times staff on our long Tuesdays. I actually had some the next day. I really liked it, so proceeded to get the recipe. I love a good stew in the winter months. I emailed Daniel Rossi to clarify some instructions and I noticed he had quite a few abbreviations behind his name. I asked if he would send me the long version. This is...

Consider one hundred years ago. We talk about the speed of technology nowadays and yes, it is racing, but imagining the staggering impact of the disruption caused by the introduction of motorized equipment to farming is almost impossible for most of us. Those of us passing by field operations stare with wonder at the tractors and combines, but mostly we drive on unaware of the accomplishments of farming. The charm of this informative and all-too-slim book—it is loaded with amazing photographs—isn’t just about the leap in technology, but also...
